My therapy dog.

To me, and like many other people, dogs are more than just dogs, they are family and best friends, loyal, nonjudgmental, and always by your side no matter what. A dog is truly as they say “a man’s best friend” but not wishing to sound sexist in any way I would say a human’s best friend.

A Therapy dog does not require specialist training or go through expensive training or testing, although training and certainly socializing is very important. The ability to get on with other dogs and follow some basic commands is something all dog owners should invest in in terms of training.

A Therapy dog as with all dogs probably know you better than you know yourself and their ability to pick up on things if something is not right, amazes me. From emotional support to physical wellbeing a dog will always understand and provide that comfort, support and help you need.

From a simple wag of the tail to a full-blown cuddle on the sofa is such a fantastic feeling.

That unwavering friendship and unlimited trust they have for you cannot be beaten. They know when your down and will pick you up and support you without judgement. A lot of dogs also recognize and sense illnesses, such as low blood sugars to having a seizure and will take the appropriate action when trained, often before you sense anything wrong.

Their ability to make you smile even in the hardest of times is brilliant.
